Para reflexionar

En la clase de Salud y Adolescencia estuvimos trabajando y analizando el tema de adicciones y sus consecuencias. Elejimos un tema para realizar un video para concientizar a la gente acerca de esta problemática. Nuestro tema es adicciones y arrepentimiento. Trabajé con Manuel Busquets, Olivia Converti  y Emilia Hernan.

An original and creative Quarterly

Over these years in literature we have been reading and analyzing different poems and stories and the play " An Inspector Calls" written by J.B Priestley. For the literature quarterly and to integrate all these contents, we were asked to choose five stories and poems and "An Inspector Calls" and to follow the next steps:

1. First we should look after all the themes of the play and each story and poem
2. For each theme we should think about a thematic statement. What is  THEMATIC STATEMENT? It is a sentence that express a theme.
3. Then we should found a suitable quotation that support the thematic statement
4. Finally we should present all this in a creative presentation. We decided to do it in piktochart.

Entendiendo al Sistema Urinario

Para esta actividad, debíamos realizar una publicación acerca de la producción de la orina en el nefrón, y luego colocar un video que explique este proceso. Trabaje con Olivia Converti.

La orina es un liquido amarillento que contiene un 96% de agua y un 4% de sólidos disueltos. Igualmente, su composición puede cambiar según la alimentación ,el estado de salud y la cantidad de líquidos ingeridos según ingiera la persona. Estos cambios pueden ser: un cambio en su coloración. La sustancias que se eliminan en la orina son: sales, urea y creatinina. Un indicio de desequilibrio se puede dar por la presencia de sustancias como: glucosa, aminoácidos, pigmentos biliares y en algunos casos, las células sanguíneas.

Nefrón

La sangre que llega a los riñones es transportada por la arteria renal. Una vez en el interior de estos órganos, se ramifica en múltiples vasos cada vez mas finos. Cada riñón esta constituido por alrededor de un millón de túbulos enrollados que forman unidades funcionales. Estas unidades son llamadas refrones o refronas. Es responsable de la purificación de la sangre. Además, filtra la sangre para regular el agua y las sustancias solubles (agua, aminoácidos y glucosa), reabsorbiendo lo que es necesario y excretando el resto como orina. Está situada principalmente en la corteza renal.
A partir de la sangre que llega hasta los nefrones se produce en ellos el proceso de formación de la orina, que se da en tres etapas: filtración, secreción tubular, reabsorción tubular y excreación 

Filtración: la sangre llega al glomérulo, donde los solutos disueltos en el plasma atraviesan los capilares. El glomérulo, por lo tanto, actúa como una especia de colador que filtra los residuos metabólicos (principalmente la urea) y nutrientes de pequeño tamaño como la glucosa y los aminoácidos. Después de filtrada la sangre, los solutos ingresan a la cápsula de Bowman. Por lo tanto, el líquido contenido en esta capsula contiene sustancias de desecho y moléculas útiles para el organismo. A este líquido se le denomina como filtrado glomerular.

Secreción: Gran parte de las sustancias de desecho son eliminadas durante la filtración, desde el plasma sanguíneo hacia el espacio urinífero. Sin embargo, a lo largo del túbulo renal se produce el transporte de sustancias de desecho, desde los capilares tubulares hacia el lumen del túbulo.

Reabsorción: El agua, las sales y otros solutos que habian sido filtrados inicialmente ocurre casi de manera simultanea con la secreción. La reabosrción de gran parte de estas sustancias se realiza por transporte activo

Excreción de la orina: El líquido de los túbulos llega al tubo recolector, en donde aún se puede reabsorber agua. En este lugar el líquido puede recibir el nombre de orina. Los tubos colectores desembocan en los cálices renales, de allí en la pelvis renal, uréteres y vejiga urinaria donde se almacena la orina hasta que se produce el reflejo de orinar, momento en que la orina es expulsada por la uretra hacia el exterior.

Desperation knocking the door!

In the Language class with Andrea Schejter, we have begun seeing "How to get away with murder", and we realized that there were plentry of interesting sounds effects. We were asked to make creative presentation using the sound effects in differentes scenes. I worked with Manuel Busquets, Emilia Hernan and Olivia Converti.

Here is our work:

Situation: A woman is at the doctor`s, she is extremely ill and she believes she has little time left…

Scene 1 (In the office)

Woman- Please, tell me the truth (she sobs sadly) Am I going to die?

Doctor- No ma’ am, Although your diagnosis is not the best one, you are going to be safe and sound, after the treatment.  

W- You are a really bad liar (slurds angrily)

D- [clears throat] Miss please calm down. I am just telling you the truth.

W- Ok ( she sighs). But please tell me what the treatment consists of.

D- It is my job to speak always with the truth to my patients.. I will call my colleague to come and tell you.

W- (sniffling) Ok, I will wait for him.

Scene 2 (In the corridor)

2nd Doctor: Hello Miss, I had been notified about the situation you are going through. (coughs) We three know how hard  this situation is forf you, but I promise that with the correct treatment you will overcome it. I am sure of that (smiling)

W: [yawning] Thank you my dear. I hope everything goes well.  I will take a nap.

D: Thank you for trusting us, we are going to do everything that is on our power.

W: Bye doc...[Sneeze] (Her nose starts to bleed)
D: [Gasping] Oh, you are bleeding!

W: (She starts convulsing and dies )

People: [indistinct shouting]

Scene 3: (In the office)

Doctor 1: Have... you done your... job? (Intriguing look)

Doctor 2: Yes, let’s talk about the important thing. (serious)

Doctor 1: Have you given her the pill?

D2: Of course my friend! Keep calm and relax, everything is done, the woman won't bother us any more ( Maleficent laughter).

D1: Let's celebrate then!

People on the corridor: (clapping hands)

Director: CUT!

Director: Good job my team, let's set the last scene of the movie. Doctors ready?

The importance of water

In the Environmental Managment class we have been working on the water cycle and how important it is. So, we were given a task that we have to write a paragraph about the problem about the distribution and the importance of it.

First of all, we all know that water is very important for us and for life to be possible on Earth, as it is  the main source of photosynthesis and water cycle. Moreover it is needed for humans and living things.  However some people don't have acces to clean water, and it is a big problem around the world. Besides the distribution of water leads to problems of water shortage. This is a problem in many parts of the world eventhough there is a lot of fresh water as there is not a good distribution, this may be because water is not evenly distributed around the world, there is a less proportion of fresh and underground water than salty water. Other causes are: rivers are to small, there is a lot of water but on ice caps, so we can not consume it. In addition the population keeps on increasing disproportionately so there is a higher demand from people and industries. Finally the factories and industries continue to contribute to water pollution as a consecuence of city sewage and industrial waste discharge. That is one of the most important ecological problems nowadays, as toxic substances enter the water (lakes, rivers, oceans), they dissolved in and they degrade the water quality, contaminating the water, and damaging water animals. We can distinguish two types of countries, the water rich countries and the water poor countries. The first one are the ones with plentiful fresh water supplies (For example, Brazil, Russia and Canada). On the other hand the water poor ones are the ones that they do not have big water sources, (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Signapure).

To conclude, in my opinion the problem of water is very important and we should all be aware of it. We should help from our own houses, for example, save water when we are having a bath, check if the taps are well closed, don't waste or throw away water. We can all help to save water.

A digital script: Fire!

In the Language class with Andrea we read an article "Fire" by Ivan Southall. After we worked with the story, the task given was to write our own radio play of this terrible night, we had to add sound effects, specific tenses (Simple Past, Past Continuous  and Past Perfect), use sequence connectors and a wide range of vocabulary. Finally we had to include an extra scene, invented by us, about what happened after the boys were found hiding in the bush.  I worked with Olivia Converti.

Here it is our script:


    It was early in the morning, Graham had woken up to boil water to make some tea. Wallace also woke up by the noises his friend was making.

- Sorry friend for the noise, I didn't mean to wake you up.

- No problem Graham, all in all I couldn't sleep due to the cold and the creepy noises of the woods.

[howlings]

-You see bro?

-Wow!

Graham was astonished

[Explosion sound]

- Oh my God! What have we done?

[Crackling Sound]

-We have to wake Henry up immediately before everything becomes a shower of flames.

     The fire was gaining space extremely quickly and Henry was still asleep.

[indistintic shouts]

-Let's grab our things right now!

-Henry wake up!

[Roaring sound]

-We are responsible for fierce fire. The flammable methylated spirits we were using to boil water have burst!

-Come on Henry, please wake up or you are going to burn into flames!

    Last of all Henry woke up,lost, he thought he was sleeping at home. The boys were hopeless and unattended, they were sorrounded by the red glow.

[sirens wailing]

-Firemen are coming! We are totally screwed up!

-Don't be silly Henry, they won't find us if we hide.

[Graham sobbing]

 After some minutes firemen managed to put out the fierce fire. Policemen and ambulances found the boys behind the bushes.

-Nothing is going to happen to you. We are here to protect you...

Un dia para recordar....

En la clase de Biologia debiamos realizar un reseña del doctor Rene Favaloro ya que ayer se cumplieron 50 anos del BYPASS.

René Gerónimo Favaloro nació en 1923 en una casa humilde del barrio “El Mondongo” de La Plata. Con apenas cuatro años de edad, Favaloro comenzó a manifestar su deseo de ser “doctor”. Su profesión nació cuando acompañaba a su tío médico a la casa a trabajar con él cuando era solo un niño.

Cursó la primaria en una modesta escuela de su barrio, donde con pocos recursos, se fomentaba el aprendizaje a través de la participación, el deber y la disciplina, son estos valores los que Favaloro transmitió.Gracias a sus padres -su madre era una habilidosa modista- aprendió a valorar el trabajo y el esfuerzo.

En 1975 fundó la fundación que lleva su nombre. Fue miembro de la Conadep (Comisión Nacional por la Desaparición de Personas), condujo programas de televisión dedicados a la medicina y escribió libros.

Hace medio siglo, el 9 de mayo de 1967, revolucionó la cirugía cardiovascular y se convirtió en un referente mundial cuya técnica, conocida como bypass, salvó la vida de millones de personas en todo el mundo.Favaloro estudió la posibilidad de utilizar la vena safena en la cirugía coronaria. La estandarización de esta técnica, llamada del baipás o cirugía de revascularización miocárdica, fue el principal trabajo de su carrera, lo que le dio prestigio internacional, ya que el procedimiento cambió radicalmente la historia de esta enfermedad. El doctor comenzó a hacer historia en la medicina del corazón, y su legado sigue intacto a través de la Fundación que sigue formando nuevas generaciones de profesionales.  Su técnica revolucionó e hizo crecer no solo a la clínica, pero también a todo Cleveland, contó Mendiz el Director del Instituto de Cardiología y Cirugía Cardiovascular, quien  comenzó a trabajar desde el primer día que abrió la Fundación y conoció de cerca la forma de pensar, actuar y transmitir del doctor Favaloro.

La causa de su suicidio fue que en el año 2000 la Argentina estaba en un gran crisis economica y politica. La Fundación Favaloro se encontraba en una difícil situación, endeudada en unos 18 millones de dólares, por lo que Favaloro pidió ayuda al Gobierno argentino, sin recibir una respuesta oficial.    El 29 de julio del año 2000 Favaloro se encerró en el baño de su casa y se disparó un tiro en el corazón.  Luego de este hecho, se descubrió que Favaloro había dejado en su departamento siete cartas  donde dejó claro la razón por la que se quitó la vida, sus pensamientos, ideas y su cansancio por ser un “mendigo en su propio país.”.

Gracias a su prestigiosa carrera, recibió muchos homenajes en su nombre, por ejemplo en la ciudad de Rosario más de 100 artistas plásticos realizaron un mural con mosaicos con formas de corazones además se hicieron diversas actividades en otras 130 ciudades incluyendo Santa Catarina (Brasil). Además se realizó una carrera 10 kilómetros que sirvió para homenajear al doctor René Favaloro. En el 2012 se construyó una estatua en su honor por el reconocido artista plástico Tomy Franzoy, con la iniciativo de Alfredo Vera

El proyecto que concluyó en la presentación de una estatua y reconocer con ella la trayectoria del Dr. René Favaloro comenzó  en 2012 por iniciativa de Alfredo Vera, quien convocó al reconocido artista  plástico Tomy Franzoy.  Tambien existe una canción dedicada a el de Ataque 77.

Para concluir, desde mi punto de vista creo que es muy importante recordar al doctor Rene Favaloro, ya que cambió y 
revolucionó la medicina. Ademas transmitio imoportantes valores.

Case Study: Katrina

In Environmental Management class we had to read about a specific cyclone and make a summery including important topics such as when and where it happened, category, effects, etc. I choose Katrina. 

TROPICAL CYCLONE: KATRINA

Hurricane Katrina was one of the most destructive and deadliest hurricanes that ever hit United States. It was on 25 August, 2005, over the southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. It was category 4, as an extreme and dangerous storm.

 An estimated 1,833 people died during this hurricane and millions of other people were homeless or affected. It also affected the following areas: Bahamas, Florida, New Orleans, Alabama, the east coast of United states.

The hurricane caused $108 billion in damage according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric The administration (NOAA).

Katrina formed 200 miles southwest of Bahamas, as a tropical depression, storm clouds began to wrap around the north side of the storm’s circulation center. Winds, of about 400 kph.

The effects were the following:

·             New Orleans was the most affected as it lies below sea levels and is protected by levees. This protection was not enough.

·             Despite the authorities order to evacuate, many poor people remained in the city

·             People refuged in the Superdome Stadium, the conditions were terrible, unhygienic, shortage of food and water.

·             1 million people were homeless.

·             1,200 people were drowned in the floods.

·             Oil facilities were damages

There was a lot to criticize to the authorities, as many people were evacuated, but it was a slow process and the poorest and most vulnerable were left behind

 

'How to get away with murder", interesting case.....

In the Language class with Andrea Schejter we have been watching the series "How to get away with murder". The task of this assingment was to create, with a creative application a presentation in  which we had  to add information about the characters and the scene we chose. In our case, we chise the Episode 2 in Season 1 in wich Annalise had to show that Max was innocent for his wife's murder. I worked with Olivia Converti:

En la calse de Biologia debiamos realizar un cuadro comparativo acerca de la nutricion en los diferentes animales. Trabaje junto a Olivia Converti.

App to Time

En la clase de Literatura, leimos un capitulo de un libro llamado "El arte de la ficción" de David Lodge, un novelista, guionista y critico ingles, nacido en Londres 1935. Luego de analizar el texto debiamos imaginar que una empresa en desarrollos digitales estaba presentando un nuevo producto, una aplicacion que transforma narraciones lineales en otras reorganizando a partir de diferentes estrategias de alteraciones temporales. Nosotros eramos los encargados del marketing y debiamos desarrollar una campana para vender este producto. Utilizamos una aplicacion para crearla, Piktochart, realizamos una infografia. Del texto previamente leído debiamos sacar, los beneficios, las ventajas, las posibles alteraciones y las funciones.
Desde mi opinion este trabajo fue muy interesante ya que no es algo que hagamos normalmente en el colegio y me parecio una buena idea. De nuestro trabajo podemos destacar, la cretividad para crear el nombre, las ideas, y la organización.
